What Is a Revocable Trust?
Think of a Revocable Trust as a "safety vault" for your assets. You place your home, bank accounts, or investments inside the vault, but you keep the only key. Because the trust is "revocable," you can reach in at any time to add or remove assets, change who receives them, or even close the vault entirely. Unlike an irrevocable trust, a revocable trust doesn't require you to give up ownership; it simply changes the way you hold title to your property to make things easier for your loved ones later.
Advantages of a Revocable Trust
1. Immediate Protection During Your Lifetime
A will only takes effect after you pass away; it does nothing if you become ill or unable to manage your affairs. A revocable trust includes a "Successor Trustee", someone you choose in advance, who can step in immediately to pay your bills and manage your property. This avoids the need for a costly, public, and time-consuming court-ordered guardianship.
